Our Mission
is to open as many doors as possible.
To think outside the box so the Andover Campus is used in a manner
that brings people into the church and builds relationships of those that are
already members.
Dulaney
explained as the Task Force began dreaming what could be done with the
Andover Campus they posed the question to themselves: “If we had ________________, then we could
do ______________. A few ideas were:
°
Recreation and Athletics: Softball,
wiffleball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, ping pong, miniature golf, ultimate
Frisbee, basketball, indoor soccer, exercise classes, kick
boxing,
self-defense. Tailgate party for
football games with
Use of big
screen TV’s to watch games
°
Discipleship/Worship: Small group bible studies for the Andover
area, programming for parenting, singles, married, divorced, Christian
speaker series.
°
And more.
The following recommendations were made to the Administrative Council by the Andover Task Force:
- Plan
at least 4 annual church wide events.
- Church
wide picnic
- Christian
Arts Fair
- Christmas
Carol night/music
- Starting
in January, have at lease one event each week. Some may repeat on a monthly basis.
- Monthly
speaker series
- New
Neighbor Hospitality Night
- Decorate
the outside of Andover for
Christmas, outdoor lights, etc.
- Christmas
programming.
- At
least one high profile Christmas event.
Suggest it be music related, possible something like an evening
of Christmas Carols inviting church members and Andover
community.
- Parents’
night out for Christmas shopping.
Include the MOMS program as a base from the Andover
area.
- Every
program committee of the church meet at Andover
in the next 60 days to brainstorm ways to expand programming at Andover. We must have the input of those with
vision to provide programming and staffing.
- Hire
a program/facilities manager in the first quarter of 2004.
- Offer
Easter Sun Rise Service in 2004.
Dulaney and the Andover Task
Force challenged the Administrative Council
to come up with additional ideas.
Foster Ockerman,
Jr. shared his excitement of being on the Task Force. He also reminded the Council the Andover
Task Force will be retired when a plan for the property is in place. Foster shared several items of interest
regarding the Andover property:
°
The Task Force would like to call the facility
the Christian Activity
Center at the First United
Methodist Church Andover Campus.
°
The Task Force would also like to advertise
the Andover Campus by means of a low volt radio announcement.
°
Foster also reported 1st UMC will
close on the Andover property
right-of-way with in the next 60 days with the possibility of the $77,500
purchase price could be a large part of the staffing salary.
°
In talking with Planning and Zoning there are
30 residential rights on the property.
Whether the residential rights can be sold off into lots is yet to be
determined.
°
The Andover
Community Church
sign has been taken down with the plan for a new sign to go up at Christmas
along with a schedule.
There are so many decisions yet to be made
regarding the Andover Campus that Foster recommended the matter be tabled and
revisited as “old business” next meeting.
