ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL MINUTES

SEPTEMBER 10, 2001

 

I.              CONVENING THE BODY: Mary Wis Haggin: The September 10, 2001, Administrative Council meeting was opened with prayer by Lay Leader David Bratcher at 6:08 PM.

 

II.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mary Wis Haggin: The July 9, 2001, Administrative Council minutes were approved on motion from Foster Ockerman, Jr., and second from Bob Fleming.

 

III.    CENTERING TIME: Al Gwinn (Attachment I)

A.     Core value #1: “We are the Body of Christ”, using text from Romans 12, was discussed at the March 5 meeting.

B.     Core value #2: “The Scriptures Are God’s Word for Us”, text from II Timothy 3:16-17, was discussed at the May 21 meeting.

C.     Core value #3: “Prayer is our Lifeline to God”, using text from Matthew 7:7, Luke 18:1, Matthew 21:13, and Jeremiah 29:13.

D.     Core value #4: “Lost People Matter to God – and to Us”, using text from Matthew 20:28, Matthew 28:19-20, John 3:16-17, and Luke 15:22.

1.      The church must keep asking, “What is our business?” and “How is business?”

2.      The commission of the church is to “Go, Teach, Baptize” from Matthew 28.

3.      The church exists for other people not in the church, not ourselves.

 

IV.        MINISTRY UPDATES

A.     Trustees: Nick Thompson

1.      Kitchen and Fellowship Hall work is near completion.

2.      The church building and grounds are in the best shape in years.

B.     Finance Proposal: Proctor Blair 

1.      The Parking Lot Committee has requested $27,000 to repave and restripe the parking lot, payable in three installments.

2.      Motion from Foster Ockerman, Jr., second by David Bratcher, approved: Delay the paving project until the final report of the Vision Team is received.

C.     Igniting Ministries: Marsha Berry

1.      The Igniting Ministries moments in church have been effective in describing church programs.

2.      Changes in place or to happen soon include: nursery pagers, reinvigoration of Doorstep Ministry, new signage, Youth Ambassadors around the church, hospitality task force, and a new church logo.

D.     Finance Report: Scooter Leonard (Attachment II)

1.      Pledge income is $63,000 below budget.

2.      The $52,000 loan balance could be repaid in one year.

F.   Foundation: Bob Fleming

1.      A Foundation Celebration and Information Meeting will be held on October 8.

2.      The Finance Committee has been notified that the Foundation’s $500 budget will be exceeded.

V.     IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER: Al Gwinn

A.     September 16: District Superintendent Reception

B.     September 30: Fifth Sunday Musicale

C.     October 21:      Stewardship Campaign begins

D.     October 28:      Laity Sunday, Bruce Smith bringing the message

E.      November 4:    All Saints Day

F.      November 19: Charge Conference

 

VI.        WHAT INFORMATION WOULD BE HELPFUL TO YOU AS YOU SEEK TO BE THE LEADER GOD NEEDS YOU TO BE?

A.     The new cook is Judy Potts.

B.     The kitchen is receiving round tables.

C.     The security system for the rear entrance has been ordered.

D.     The visitor reception after services is being utilized, mainly by young marrieds.

E.      The Estonia trip had a great impact on the youth and it is hoped they can continue to share their experiences.

F.      The Habitat for Humanity house at 840 Whitney Ave. is under roof, with a scheduled completion date of October 6.

G.     The youth had 12 unchurched visitors in recent weeks.

H.     The college group had 45 at their kickoff and 21 in Sunday School on September 9.

 

VII.   CLOSING PRAYER: Al Gwinn: The closing prayer was offered at 7:15 PM.
